Mississippi Innocence Project

Leigh Stubbs/Tami Vance

stubbs-vanceLeigh Stubbs and co-defendant Tami Vance were convicted of aggravated assault and drug possession and sentenced to 44 years in prison in 2000. They were convicted mainly on the testimony of Dr. Michael West, whose credibility problems were well known. He was later suspended and soon resigned from the American Board of Forensic Odontologists.

In June 2012, their convictions were vacated after serving 12 years. Unfortunately, the Attorney General’s office has decided to re-prosecute the cases. MIP is currently litigating the case Lincoln County Circuit Court in Brookhaven, Mississippi.
